His breakthrough in the field of medicine came after he published the article “Diseases and Peculiarities of the Negro Race.” He is also known primarily as the inventor of the disease “Drapetomania” – a mental disorder that caused the slaves to escape their masters, and announced that the escapees must be found in order to deal with their severe disorder.

Dr. Samuel Cartwright did not hesitate to invent diseases for blacks and is also known have “discovered” “Dysaesthesia aethiopica,” which included, among other things, an injury to the senses that caused slaves “not to feel pain when punished” (which, conveniently enough, meant that there was no need to spare whiplashes).┬áHe called his findings “unquestionable scientific evidence.”
